The Department of Chaplaincy Services is seeking a highly motivated and energetic ACPE Supervisor to join our team. An affiliate with Sutter Health, Alta Bates Summit Medical Center (ABSMC) is a not-for-profit medical center in both Oakland and Berkeley, California. Our Centers of Excellence include Cardiovascular Services, Women and Infants Care, Behavioral Health Services, Oncology, and Orthopedics. ABSMC has two Emergency Departments, Acute Rehabilitation, Stroke Care, Substance Abuse treatment, and a full array of the most advanced specialty services. Licensed for 1000 beds, the three main campuses (Alta Bates, Summit, and Herrick) reflect the diversity of the communities we serve, and the medical center addresses a variety of community health issues and concerns. The Chaplaincy Services Department and ACPE program are well established and integrated throughout the medical center. The ACPE program is accredited for Level I-II and Supervisory Education. ABSMC offers a residency program, summer internship, and occasional extended units. The ACPE Supervisor will join a team that includes a Director/ACPE Supervisor, seven Staff Chaplains, a Supervisory Candidate, and seven CPE residents. We are seeking an ACPE Supervisor with strong theoretical competence, exceptional pastoral skills, innovative curriculum development and experience with ACPE Accreditation Standards compliance. The candidate will work well with a team of staff chaplains and CPE students representing diverse faith traditions and cultures. Primary Duties: The full time ACPE Supervisor is responsible for primary CPE supervision, curriculum development, and overall program oversight. Qualifications: M.Div. or equivalent from accredited theological school, ordination or commissioning and endorsement from recognized faith group, ACPE certification as Supervisor or Associate Supervisor. APC/NACC/NAJC Board certification as Chaplain also preferred.

Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor: General Description
CPE of Central CA is looking for a CPE Supervisor to launch a CPE program in Fresno California, which will serve Central California. In this role the supervisor will develop curriculum and initiate CPE classes at Level I and Level II. This person will supervise students' clinical work, provide educational opportunities, and evaluate students. This person will work with the staff or managers of spiritual care programs in the five hospitals of the collaboration and detention centers to coordinate CPE students’ placement and ministry. The CPE Supervisor is responsible for the planning, organizing and implementing an accredited program of Clinical Pastoral Education that meets the Standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. The CPE Supervisor will be responsible to the Board of Directors, and directly report to the chair and/or to his or her designee. The Board of Directors is made up of representatives from five partnering hospitals and two religious training institutions in the area of fundraising.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Graduation from an accredited School of Theology.
2. Masters of Theology or Masters of Divinity or related masters degrees required, with M.Div. preferred
3. Ordination by a recognized religious or spiritual organization.
4. Endorsement or formal recommendation by a recognized religious or spiritual organization to provide spiritual care in a clinical setting.
5. Certification as an ACPE Associate Supervisor required or Full Supervisor preferred by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. This person shall also maintain certification.
6. Excellent communication skills to include oral comprehension understanding spoken word /oral expression being able to speak and write proficiently.
Duties and Responsibilities: CPE Supervision and Spiritual Care
1. Establish and maintain a CPE curriculum that uses the clinical method of learning with interdisciplinary instructional resources.
2. Develop and maintain an orientation that includes a CPE Student Manual, hospital department policies and procedures, detention center protocols, the philosophy and methodologies of CPE and the practical skills that students need to begin their learning.
3. Organize and maintain a CPE library including current books and publications the support student and staff learning.
4. Assure that student's are provided sufficient opportunities for clinical interchange with patients and families, and interdisciplinary team functioning with staff and physicians.
a. Provide a mixture of group and individual learning contexts
b. Provide for and coordinate a program evaluation process that assures and responds to student feedback to improve.
c. Liaise with the CPE board, it's leadership and it's sub-committee's to provide student services, process improvement and community relations for the CPE program.
d. Serve as a role model and mentor to residents and interns of the professional Chaplains in medical care and detention systems.
e. Provide spiritual care and counseling and other duties as assigned.
5. Begin and maintain the ongoing accreditation process for CPE of Central CA with ACPE to meet their standards and become a fully accredited CPE training center.
6. Assist with fundraising for the continuation of CPE of Central CA.
